Best Hike Near Quebec City- Point de vue du Géant

Summit view of hike near Montreal and Quebec City in Sepal Parc national du fjord Saguenay sunset

The Most Beautiful Hike in Quebec!

Located in Sépaq parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay, point de vue du Géant, is by far my favourite hike in the region! This hike transported me back the summer that I lived in the Canadian Rockies and I could not believe that we had such beautiful trails in Eastern Canada!

This hike was extra special because of the diverse scenery you see along the way; from streams and rivers, to an incredible waterfall, culminating with the final view of the Saguenay Fjords, this hike truly is unbeatable!

ABOUT THIS HIKE:
  • 10.1 km out-and-back trail
  • 453 m elevation gain
  • rated hard (more on this later in the blog)
  • features a waterfall, river, stream and fjords
  • Sépaq daily access $9.55

LOCATION:

This hike is located 3 hours from Quebec City and 5 hours from Montreal, making it the perfect day hike or an excellent excuse for a road trip! The entrance of parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay is located a 30 minuted drive form the nearest town of La Baie, Saguenay.

Difficulty level and things to note:

On the AllTrails website, this hike is rated as hard due to an intense elevation gain of 300 meters in only 1.5 kilometres. Although I found this to be challenging, it is not a technically difficult hike, in my opinion. As long as you take your time, take as many breaks as needed, hydrate sufficiently and have snacks on hand, you can definitely do this hike! This was my first hike of the season and I was not in shape and we finished this hike in just under 3 hours (active moving time).

If you’re planning on staying at the summit for sunset, don’t forget to bring a headlamp as the way down will be dark. Make sure to always make noise while hiking in the dark to let nearby wildlife know you’re around!

Places to stay if you want to spend the night:

The area is absolutely breathtaking so if you have the time, I would definitely recommend turning this hike into a mini getaway! Here are a few excellent AirBnb options with beautiful views of the surrounding nature, located close to the entrance of parc national Fjord-du-Saguenay.

  • These rustic tiny homes are the perfect place to relax after an incredible hike. Located close to La Baie, they have 2 beds and allow free access to a canoe and a sauna! They are an affordable option at $80/night.
  • This charming chalet is a bit of a splurge but can sleep 4 people, so splitting it with a bunch of friends makes it a great option! Located on the edge of the Saguenay Fjords, you will have excellent views, a fireplace to create amazing memories under the starry night sky. The nightly rate is approximately $239.
  • This bright and airy townhouse in La Baie, includes my dream bathtub with stunning views of the Fjord!! A bubble bath while overlooking the water is the perfect way to relax after hiking all day! Nightly price is $129/night.
